Introduction
Divine Comedy
“Virtual realism” is the term Götz Valien uses to describe his work. Raised in Tirol, he is connected to the landscape of his home and inserts his leading ladies in masterful, scenic dialogs with nature. He takes us to scenes that the artist himself might have painted during his years-long experience as a cinema poster painter. His work often feels like a film set in which the protagonist, in her full beauty and perfect poise, snatches the gaze of the viewer.
He easily adds typographic riddles into the landscape panoramas as captions. There is thus a multilayered connection between the gesture, floating inscription, and background. The viewer never tires of looking, as one continues to discover new meaning and becomes fascinated by his idealized fantasies. In his artistic work, he passionately seizes the freedom to bring us from the seemingly real world into one of fiction.
